The university has now spread beyond its Northern Ireland roots to include branch campuses in London and Birmingham, run in partnership with QA Higher Education, formerly QA Business School. We are a truly international university with over 2,000 international students from over 80 different countries and Alumni from 121 countries.

The branch campuses offer globally recognized, fully accredited degrees at Bachelors and Masters levels. We have an excellent reputation for research, for providing work-based learning, and for the level of recognition granted by professional bodies.

We aim to create the best opportunities for our students by putting an emphasis on work-based learning. This contributes to over 92% of Ulster graduates being in employment or pursuing further studies within 6 months (DLHE Survey 2018).

Choosing to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree is an important investment, but with some clever budgeting, you can really take the financial pressure out of student life. Here we take a look at studying in the city of Birmingham.

Lower living costs

When it comes to student accommodation, you’ll find it is cheaper to rent in Birmingham than in London, helping to make it more affordable for students on a budget.

The average rent for a room (i.e. in a flatshare) in London is now £552  per month, in Birmingham, the average room is rented at £372  per month. This is a huge consideration in most students’ budgeting.

It isn’t just rent that is cheaper in London, either. General living costs as indicated by Number see Birmingham with a Cost of Living Index  score of 68, while London scored 84. A monthly travel pass, for example, costs 127% more in London than in Birmingham, providing our Birmingham students a monthly saving of £73.

 Great career opportunities

The city itself is a fantastic place to get into business, enter a range of industries and find the opportunities you need to succeed.

Birmingham’s business infrastructure is impressive, with hubs and thriving professional communities around the Custard Factory  and Brindley Place . A new tram system makes getting around simple, plus the city was recently named the best place in the UK

London Campus

Our London campus is situated right in the heart of the city, in historic Holborn. Close to many transport links, restaurants, bars and attractions, our campus still manages to have an intimate feel, with friendly staff and students alike.

The campus has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment throughout and now provides an even better environment for you to study and socialise in. Equipped with computer rooms, common areas, classrooms, library facilities, free Wi-Fi throughout and private study areas, it is an ideal location.

In addition to our teaching location at 10 Rosebery Avenue, students can access the QA student hub situated at 7-15 Rosebery Avenue.

Birmingham Campus

Our Birmingham campus has a great location in the city centre close to the main New Street rail station in the Centre City building.

We have excellent teaching facilities and an experienced faculty that complements our cost, intimate campus that is geared towards learning and employment.

  • Birmingham has undergone an impressive period of visual changes over recent years. The famous and iconic Bullring shopping centre has been redeveloped. In addition, shopping centres such as The Mailbox provide additional excellent facilities with a range of outlets for every budget.
  • There are many museums in Birmingham, containing collections of local and national significance. Birmingham is also home to the Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony Hall is regarded as one of the finest concert halls in Europe.
